Chapter of a Dream
The Dream Compass
State of Dreaming
Growth & Goals
Now or Never
Inward & Forward
Going after your creative dreams is no small feat. It might possibly be the hardest and most fulfilling thing you'll ever do.
So it's not surprising that many of us struggle from time to time. We get lost in our own dreams, not knowing which way is forward and which is backwards.
We start doubting ourselves if we didn't already.
We get stressed and overwhelmed.
We focus on the wrong things.
We get firmly stuck.
At those times, wouldn't it be nice if you had a compass that had all the answers? That could tell you exactly what you need to do to make your dream come true?
Now you probably expect me to say I have that magic compass, but I don't believe in that kind of magic. No one has all the answers.
But I do believe that each and everyone of us are able to figure things out, if we have the right questions to ask of ourselves.
What if you could make your own compass when you get stuck? Your very own dream compass guiding you forward?
What is it you really want?
Let's start with the basics. What do you actually dream of? Have you put it into words? Or is it just a jumble in your head?
- Put your dream into words. It's okay if you aren't clear on the details, and you're allowed to be as grand as you like. Think of it as confession time.
- Now, why do you have that dream? What would it mean to you if it came true? Why is it important?
- What do you value?
- Where are you now? What is this stage, honestly?
How are you holding yourself back?
What makes you stop? What keeps you from getting started? What thoughts go on inside your mind when you fall into doubt? What areas of work are you avoiding?
[Lack of confidence] I don't think I can do it, and I'm afraid of failing. I'm not worthy of this, I'm not good enough, I should spend my time on other things.
[Lack of habits] I struggle to sit down and work in it, so I make little progress and feel bad about it.
[Lack of focus] I work hard but never seem to be making good progress, I'm constantly overwhelmed and stressed.
[Lack of strategy] I'm making progress, but I'm not reaching the goals I want to reach.
[Lack of clarity] I second guess all my decisions and can't find a clear path to go down, or I'm stuck and don't know what to do next.
[Lack of skills] I know what I want to do, but I don't know how to do it, or I'm constantly letting myself down.
What should your next goal be?
Let's look at where you're at and what a good goal could be for this stage of your journey.
3 month goal, reachable, three levels, process goal. How are you going to get there? What will your habits and schedule look like? What are your priorities?
What do you need to do to stop holding yourself back? How can you weave that into the work you need to do?
